NVCO reminds govt on illegal collections, check gates

DIMAPUR, JUNE 7 (MExN): Following its representation to the government against illegal collection of cash/taxes at the check-gates and on highways by organisations, civic bodies and government departments viz. police, taxes, forest etc., the Nagaland voluntary consumer organisation (NVCO) met state home minister June 2 and resolved that state government would take up strong measures to stop the menace.
According to NVCO president Kezhokhoto Savi, the content of representation was complaint of a local contractor, who had fetched a truck load of sand from Delai Gate, Dimapur, had to pay several tax amounting to Rs. 2,200 from Delai gate Dimapur to Kohima.
The meeting convened and chaired by home minister was attended by Naga Hoho, NSF, NVCO, top ranking police officers and home commissioner, stated a release issued by NVCO president Kezhokhoto Savi.
Savi said the meeting also reiterated government order date June 22, 2009 that banned collection of cash/taxes.
“Everyone in the meeting was of strong opinion to control and stop the menace of illegal collection of cash/taxes on highways/check gates in the state as this is the main cause to price rise and the illegal collection of cash are finally realized by the consumers,” said Savi.
NVCO president also voiced against the collection of cash at check-gates and on highways in the state and particularly Dimapur and Kohima.
“The illegal collection in Dimapur has affected every consumer in the state as Dimapur is the commercial hub and gateway to Nagaland,” he said.
