Kohima, October 6 (MExN): The Nagaland Wrestling Association (NWA) has made a historic mark at the recently concluded AITWPF 12th National Traditional Wrestling & Pankration Championship 2024, held in Dehradun, Uttarakhand, from October 3 to 6. Team NWA secured an impressive total of 53 medals, including 27 gold, 18 silver, and 8 bronze, dominating the Belt and MAS wrestling categories.
In the senior men’s category of Belt Wrestling, NWA saw top performances, with gold medals awarded to Menuosetuo Yiese (+100 kg), Venuzo Dawhuo (100 kg), Hulüyi D. Vadeo (90 kg), Seyiejalie Gwirie (80 kg), Külüvezo Soho (71 kg), Lhupra Vero (65 kg), Tsuhveto Resuh (49 kg), and Pude Hesuh (45 kg). Rukukhoto Khusoh earned silver in the +100 kg category, while Kuvenu Puro took silver in the 80 kg class, along with other silver and bronze medalists rounding out the podium in multiple weight classes.
In the senior women’s category, Thujosulu clinched gold in the 63 kg division, alongside Vekhonielu Cürhah (56 kg). Silver medals were secured by Vikehenuo Zumvu (+70 kg) and Vetavolu Puyo-o (63 kg), with Thejaneinuo Thevo and Haizuyile also securing medals.
NWA’s cadet category wrestlers also delivered strong performances, with gold medals won by Mulukhro Nakro (66 kg), Kevilekho Peki (59 kg), Nubasa Rhakho (73 kg), and Külüngolü Nakro (42 kg). In MAS Wrestling, NWA athletes excelled, with Yiese and Dawhuo repeating gold in their respective categories.
The Nagaland team finished in second place overall, making a significant impact in this year’s championship. The team is scheduled to return to Dimapur on October 10.
