NWHD condemns sexual harassment of minor

Dimapur, April 7 (MExN): The Naga Women Hoho Dimapur (NWHD) has expressed “profound dismay and unequivocal condemnation” over an incident of sexual harassment allegedly committed against a young girl from “the Naga community by a non-local individual.”

In a statement, the NWHD described the incident as a “reprehensible act” that “constitutes a grave violation of her fundamental rights to life, dignity, and equality,” while also terming it “an attack on the collective conscience of our society.”

Condemning the incident in strong terms, the NWHD stated that it serves as “a formal condemnation of this abhorrent act and a demand for swift, transparent, and stringent legal action against the perpetrator to ensure that justice is not only done but is also seen to be done.”

The NWHD further cautioned that such incidents, “if left unaddressed with the full force of the law, have the potential to create a climate of fear and insecurity, particularly for women and girls from marginalized communities.”

“In light of the gravity of the offence and the imperative to ensure the safety and security of women and girls, on behalf of the concerned womenfolk and in the interest of justice, we demand immediate action against the accused/perpetrator,” the statement added.
