Officer assaulted; perpetrators decamp with 20,000

Dimapur Dec 13 (MExN): According to reports, the Sub-Division Officer of the Power Department of Tuensang District, Lhuvoyi Veswuh was assaulted on the night of December 8 by a group of miscreants alleged to be underground cadres and later robbed of about Rs. 20,000 which was meant for a departmental programme. SDO Veswuh was assaulted by the miscreants late at night when he had gone to check the powerhouse and sustained serious injuries.

Meanwhile, the Chakhesang Gazetted Officers Forum (CGOF) has expressed pain at the incident. In a letter of condemnation issued by Veprasa Nyekha it was stated that ‘some unruly elements’ claiming to be national workers had waylaid the officer at the Tuensang powerhouse around 8:00 pm and brutally assaulted him.

According to the letter the miscreants began charging the officer with nonsensical accusation such as his being a proud man etc and started assaulting him after which the perpetrators decamped with Rs 20,000 which the victim was carrying.

It was stated that the amount was meant for organizing a departmental conference. Expressing strong disgust at the incident, the Forum while appealing to one and all to condemn the assault also urged the Government of Nagaland, district administration and the Tuensang Police to investigate the matter to identify the perpetrators of the crime and award them befitting punishment as per law. The CGOF expressed confidence that the government as well as the investigating agencies would leave no stone unturned to book all the culprits responsible for inflicting physical pain and mental agony on SDO Veswuh who was, according to the forum, an upright and diligent government servant.
