Oil spill...

(Right) A frog is seen inundated in the crude oil at one of a leaking point at one of the oil field at Changpang village, some 120 kms away from Wokha district on September 9. Large amount of crude oil are leaking out due to improperly capped oil wells affecting the environment and life of the villagers after the ONGC shut down its drilling of the crude oil due to social unrest in 1994. An estimated geological reserve of 110 million barrels of oil with a recoverable reserve of approximately 1,600 barrels per day is presented at the Changpang village. Between 1973 and 1994 ONGC has drill 29 holes, out of which 21 wells are oil bearing and 2 were gas bearing and ONGC has extracted only 7 millions barrels of oil from the Changpang oil field.
