Dimapur, March 1 (MExN): An appeal has been made to rectify the disbursement of old age pension to senior citizens of Tseminyu Sub-division in Kohima district. Drawing attention of the concern department, PKR Union, Phenshunyu Village, general secretary, John Semy in a press note has appealed to rectify the payment system for benefit of the beneficiaries at the earliest.
According to the note, earlier the postal department was entrusted of disbursing off the old age pension which was quite convenient for the beneficiaries as there was postal runner appointed in every village who collected the pension from the nearest post office and disbursed the same to the beneficiaries in the village itself. However, in latter part of December 2010, the DSO of Kohima district came with the pension down to Tseminyu Sub-division and started disbursing, just for one day. As a result many of the beneficiaries could not come on the appointed day and collect the same.
“Even today they could not collect as they are unable to come to the DSO office Kohima, and if at all it was disbursed on the appointed day, the old aged people will not be able to return to their respective village as some villages are 28-30 KM away from the Sub-division without any means of transportation except walking,” the general secretary stated.
Therefore, on behalf of the beneficiaries it is requested to the department to arrange and alternatives in disbursing the pension. The note also suggested that the pension be disbursed through post office which is the most convenient way for the beneficiaries and to monitor timely of the disbursement or the CDPO office to disbursed the same by deputing the supervisor once a year to every village who in turn can do the live verification process as under the office there are at least 2-3 supervisor.
