On relocation of Kiphire college

Through this column I would like to bring few things to the notice of Hon’ble Minister Higher & Technical Education as well as the people of Nagaland especially those of Kiphire.

That the taking over of the colleges in Kiphire, Longleng, Peren and Kohima by the Government shows the Government’s deep concern towards the development of education in those areas and Nagaland in general. Even the sacrifice of the persons who handed over the colleges is praiseworthy. But where does the future of these colleges especially the college at Kiphire lie. As the college at Kiphire is likely to change its location where will it be shifted? That is a question ringing in everyone’s mind.

Everyone wants the college to stand on their land - the inner concern is not for education but for money or job. And as the rumour is going on, the founder of the college is also trying for the same. Whether his concern is for education or money or job no one knows. But what we want is a fair decision on the part of the Government.

Even the Higher & Technical Minister on his last visit to Kiphire has visited the place. And the rumour that is spreading is that the government has decided to take that land for the college. But the common people don’t think that place suitable for setting up the college as the land is very sloped and not suitable even to construct the football ground and not enough place for so many other things and further extension in the near future, leave alone the facility of a better communication to that place.

As a common man of Kiphire eyen I would like to suggest that KIUSINGWONG (A hillock which is located about 4KM) on the way to Tuensang will be a better place for the college with all the facilities of even extending a town. I feel many of the people of Kiphire will agree with me.

The problem is that Phelungre village under whose jurisdiction the place exists lacks a charismatic leader to present the proposal before the government. Even I would like to appeal to the people of Phelungre village to come forward to present a better proposal to the Government and if necessary to donate the land without taking compensation for the sake of higher education in Kiphire. That will be more praise worthy.

Therefore I would like to request the government and the concerned Minister in particular not to get biased by the evil minded politicians and the mediators to take a wrong decision and to let the Kiphire people suffer for generations. Hoping that the government will medidate upon this issue twice before taking a final decision.
