Phek, June 14 (MExN): Phek Police have arrested the alleged driver involved in a hit-and-run incident that left two women pedestrians injured in Phek town on June 13.
A press release from the Phek Police media cell informed that Phek Police received information at around 6:30 pm on June 13 that a vehicle had hit two women at Bible Hill Colony before fleeing the scene.
A special police team was immediately dispatched and found that both women had sustained injuries in the incident. One of the victims was pregnant. They were admitted to the District Civil Hospital, Phek, where their condition was reported to be stable.
Police said the vehicle involved was a blue Maruti Celerio, which had allegedly approached from the wrong side of the road before hitting the pedestrians. The driver reportedly abandoned the vehicle near a garage at Zion Colony and fled.
The vehicle was seized by Phek Police, and the absconding driver was later apprehended by a special operations team in coordination with PTCSU.
A case has been registered at Phek Police Station vide Phek/PS/Case No. 0002/2026 under Sections 281 and 117(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) read with Section 185 of the Motor Vehicles Act. Further investigation is underway.
Meanwhile, Phek Police reminded the public that rash and negligent driving causing injury is punishable under Section 281 of the BNS, while driving under the influence of alcohol beyond the permissible limit is an offence under Section 185 of the Motor Vehicles Act.
Police also stated that Section 134 read with Section 187 of the Motor Vehicles Act makes it a legal duty for drivers involved in accidents to assist the injured and report the incident to the police.
