DIMAPUR, AUGUST 8 (MExN): A special judge of Prevention of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) Kohima unit, Duvelu Vero on August 8 convicted and sentenced one person identified Bakul Basumatary for 20 years for raping a minor of 12 years.
The accused, aged 37 years, was convicted and sentenced under section 6 of the POCSO Act for aggravated penetrative sexual assault of a minor.
Informing this, a press release issued by Public Prosecutor, Kohima T Marlemba said on June 29, 2020, a complaint (FIR) was lodged by the mother of the victim in the Women Police Station Kohima stating that her minor child has been raped at their residence at Seikhazou D Khel by the accused.
A case was registered and investigated by UBSI Kengbame and the prosecution case was conducted by the special public prosecutor Sashimongla Jamir. The judge also directed the Kohima District Legal Service Authority to process for payment of compensation to the victim.
