A 65-year-old man has been arrested in connection with registration of a First Information Report (FIR) under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act in the Women Police Station, Mokokchung for the alleged sexual assault of a minor.
The accused is a resident of Majakong Ward Mokokchung.
As per the FIR, the incident reportedly took place on August 30 between 8PM and 9PM. The victim, a 7-year-11-month-old girl, was lured to a house in Majakong Ward on the pretext of being given money, where she was allegedly subjected to sexual assault.
The FIR further mentioned that similar incidents had occurred on previous occasions as well.
The complaint noted that the child has been experiencing psychological trauma as a result of the alleged abuse.
Based on the FIR, the police have registered a case under relevant sections of the POCSO Act and arrested the accused
A case has been registered under Section 4/8 of the POCSO Act, and further investigation is underway, the police added.
