One killed; civilian injured in Kohima factional shooting

In yet another factional violence today, one person suspected to be from the NSCN (Khaplang) was shot dead while a civilian was injured in a shoot out that took place at the Secretariat area in Kohima around 11:30 this morning. The deceased person was identified as one “SS Lt.” Kahovi Zhimomi, around 38 years, son of an Ahovi Zhimomi of Sakhai village while the injured person was identified as one K. Nibohoto Aye, 29 years, son of a Kahoi of Ahoto village.

Nibohoto is working at All India Radio, as a vernacular news reader. He is reportedly out of danger. The deceased was later taken to NHAK for postmortem while the injured was admitted into Naga Hospital. Speaking to The Morung Express, the injured said he went to the Secretariat office for work and had parked his vehicle to buy an item from a nearby shop where the deceased, Kahovi Zhimomi, was also there. 

He is said to have entered his vehicle when a number of individuals came and started shooting, damaging his car as well. The news reader said that on hearing the shooting, he came out of his car, raised his hands shouting “I am a public, civilian”, and tried to run as the persons didn’t stop shooting. He said to have looked back and saw one person was already shot dead. In the melee, he said, he was shot in the leg and shoulder.
