An open letter to the Chief Minister

Mechüselie Kehie,
Ph.D
Rüzaphema Village, Dimapur

I write this letter to apprise you of the appalling condition of New Chümukedima Bridge which connects NH-29 and New Chümukedima Village leading to Rüzaphema Village and to Peren district. That Sir, the bridge is on the verge of collapse as evidenced by fatigue-cracks and also enormous fluttering when vehicles run across the bridge. This unusual oscillation of the slender bridge spans several months nowand is deteriorating at an alarming rate, a harbinger of a possible juggernaut disaster. The high-stakebridge is at the precipice and might fall headlong any time unless immediate corrective measures are put in place. It is no more a question of if, but when?

Every day, thousands of people commute through this bridge as it is the most accessible route in this area. However, the precarious condition of this bridge is endangering the lives of the commuters. This poses a serious concernon public safety requiring a fast-track solution to resolve the matter as soon as possible.

Hon’ble Sir, in tune with your public statement made on 24th August 2017, on your recently launched official Facebookaccount, “I am deeply concerned to see the deplorable road condition of our State... I, as the head of the State, will make it my mission to address these concerns… I am optimistic that we will overcome this hazardous road condition very soon,”I take this privilege to bring the matter to your kind attention hoping that you aresincere in your commitments and will honor your words. In this regard, I as a concerned citizen and on behalf of the inhabitants of this areaurgentlyappeal to you, the head of the State, to direct concerned authority/department to look into the matterand take corrective measures so as to prevent any catastrophic disaster from occurring.

Hon’ble Sir, it is pertinent to mention that unfortunate tragic bridge accidents had occurred in recent months in the State due to the failure of the Govt., such unfortunate incidents must be avoidedby taking appropriate measures. Any further delayfrom the Govt. due to negligence, or bureaucratic red tape may wreak havoc to its citizens, the corollary of such detrimental outcomeswillincur astronomical losses and the StateGovt. will be held for it.

Hon’ble Sir, I hope that the Govt. led by you gives this matter the attention it deserve and resolve the same at the earliest.
