Open letter to Chief Electoral Officer Nagaland : Kohima

Respected sir,

The under mentioned area have the honour to bring forth, this appeal letter seeking your prompt intervention and timely redressal please.

That sir, the ongoing constituency re-adjustment which is under draft proposal has invited enough hue and cries from various sections of the society, irrespective of party affiliations. In this connection, the Akuluto Area also places our strong objection to the readjustment done for 31st AC. Akuluto. Whereas, the so called minor readjustment should have been carried out in the spirit of fairness, taking into consideration the geographical proximity and other related ground realities. However, to our great surprise and dismay the proposed arrangement for Akuluto constituency is such that, the candidates and the party workers will have to cross Mokokchung district in order to reach out to the villages of Sapoti, Jekuto, Kholeboto and Tichiba. Likewise, in order to reach out to the villages of Yehemi, Kiyetha, Surumi and Suruhuto HQ. one will have to cross 32 Assembly Constituency Atoizu and vice-versa.This adjustment has been purposefully exercised by the committee concern to suit their electoral prospects for the ensuing election. Moreover, there is no regular people to people contact between the said villages from Suruhuto and Akuluto - V.K. Area, in absence of such contacts between the electorates, the essence of democratic principles and ethos remain defeated. This adjustment to our understanding is enacted intentionally to introduce area wise versus through electoral politics, which is totally against the will of Akuluto and V.K. Area people.

It is to be noted that, In the present era of science and technology where electioneering is done in choppers and running vehicles due to paucity of time, the proposed adjustment has arranged in such a manner that, the candidates from Akuluto - V.K. and Suruhuto will either have to cross many constituencies in order to reach the proposed constituency arrangements or walk at least 40 - 50 Kms. crossing steep jungles and rivers taking all the party workers and leaders along with him or her, which is absolutely impracticable and unrealistic. The area concern consider this arrangement as an insult to all the inhabitants of the affected areas. Therefore, if this draft proposal is not corrected suitably we will be compelled to boycott the coming election.

The area henceforth, place this letter for your judicious observance and request your high office to initiate a remedial measures befitting the concern issue, in the larger interest of healthy and viable democracy and areas conveniency in particular.
We thank you for the anticipated action Sir.
