Organisations denounce killing of youth in Kohima; demand justice

Dimapur, Wokha, December 6 (MExN): Several organisations today condemned the alleged killing of a youth on November 30 in Leriechazou, Kohima. 

The victim, who was by birth a Person with Disability (PwD), was identified as Thungchibemo Humtsoe, hailing from Lakhuti Village, Wokha and was residing in Lerie colony, Kohima.

He was alleged killed by one Seketol Kiso, who was arrested later and reportedly now in police custody. 

In a press release, the Lotha Students’ Union (LSU) denounced the killing as “horrendous inhumane act of cold blooded murder” and demanded for a harshest punishment. 

While appreciating the police personnel for apprehending the accused, the LSU further urged the law enforcing agencies not to grant bail under “any circumstances or situation.” 

The LSU, representing the voice of the Lotha students’ community, further reiterated that it would not remain a mute spectator and would resort to any mode of democratic agitation if the culprit is not given the harshest punishment according to the law. 

The union further appealed the law enforcing agencies to expedite the case so that the criminal is severely punished and booked under appropriate section under the court of law.

All the peace loving citizens are requested to come forward and condemn the heinous act which has no place in the Naga society, added the LSU in a press release from its President Ashanthung Humtsoe and General Secretary, Pithungo Shitio.

The union also extended its condolences and prayers to the bereaved family members of the deceased and assured its unconditional support and cooperation until justice is delivered.

The Lakhuti Wokha Town Humtsoe Ekhung  also stated that it was “traumatised and incensed beyond words by the gruesome and senseless torture and murder.”

The victim is a differently abled person and the Ekhung calls upon all the right thinking citizens in the Naga society to strongly condemn such evil and abhorrent crime, stated a press release from the LWTHE General Secretary Rentsamo J Humtsoe and Vice Chairman Benithung Humtsoe.

It further expressed appreciation to the law enforcing agencies led by the Superintendent of Police  Kohima and the officers of the South Police Station for arresting the accused. 

At the same time,it called upon the authority to arrest all his accomplices at the earliest and deliver justice.

 It further cautioned against any individual, group or organisations found hampering, tampering or obstructing the investigation process or attempting to secure the bail of the accused person and the accomplices. “This would mean a direct challenge and it will not be held responsible for any severe repercussions in the event of miscarriage of justice,” it added. 

The Office of the Wokha Town Lakhuti Pongdenro Okho (WTLPO) also stated that it as “extremely disturbed and grieved by the inhumane murder.”  Citing statement from the victim’s family, it claimed that the victim was found a deplorable state and left near a footpath.

We called all right thinking citizens to shun away with the culture of ‘ism’ and urged them to condemn the evil and malicious crime committed by the culprit,  the WTLPO stated in a press release.

It further demanded award of befitting and highest degree of punishment as per the law of the land against the culprit, adding that “such an act of murder is alien to the Naga culture.”

The WTLPO also requested the investigating agency to left no stones unturned and arrest all the culprits involved and disclose in the public domain, the motive behind the killing.

While lauding the timely actions South PS, Kohima led by Additional SP, the WTLPO further assured their cooperation to the investigating agency and also appealed for delivering justice to the bereaved family at the earliest.

Meanwhile, the WTLPO also cautioned that any individual/organisation found involving to hampering/sabotaging the investigation process or attempting to secure the culprits under any circumstances would lead to initiation of “serious action.”It further conveyed condolences to the bereaved families and assured their prayers and full support.
