Orientation on National Legal Services Authority new schemes

Kohima, January 23 (MExN): Kohima District Legal Services Authority (KDLSA) organizes an orientation programme for the District Legal Services Authority members, Panel Lawyers and Para Legal Volunteers here today at the NSLSA Conference Hall, Kohima.  

A press note stated that the orientation was held on the experiences of the panel lawyers and on the topic ‘National Legal Services Authority New Schemes’ with Nino Iralu, NJS, Member Secretary NSLSA as Resource person.  

Resource person Nino Iralu, NJS, Member Secretary NSLSA in her presentation introduced the seven new schemes of the National Legal Services Authority which was launched in the month of November, 2015 and mandated for implementation starting from 2016.  

She gave a detail explanation on these schemes such as NALSA (Victims of Trafficking & Sexual Exploitation) Scheme, 2015; NALSA (Legal Services to Un-organised Sectors) Schemes, 2015; NALSA (Child friendly Legal Services and their Protection) Schemes, 2015; NALSA (Legal Services to the Mentally Ill and Mentally Disabled Persons) Scheme, 2015; NALSA (Effective Implementation of Poverty Alleviation Schemes) 2015; NALSA (Protection and Enforcement of Tribal Rights) Scheme; NALSA (Legal Services to the Victims of Drug Abuse and Eradication of Drug Menace) Scheme, 2015.  

Mezivolu T. Therieh, NJS, Secretary KDLSA & Chief Judicial Magistrate, Kohima in her introductory remarks stated that “through this kind of orientation programme we can retrospect our past and look forward to give a better service to the people.”  

She said that the very concept of the Legal Services Authority is to cater to the needs of the marginalised and economically downtrodden people to help them get access to justice. She also said that she is fortunate and satisfied working under the Legal Services Authority through various activities among which one of them is spreading awareness in schools and colleges as students are the leaders of tomorrow and once they are sensitized on the provisions of law they can be law abiding citizens at the same time help the people in the villages get access to justice.  

She urged the Panel Lawyers  to have a missionary zeal and carry forward in implementing the objectives and aims of the Legal Services Authority at the same time know their responsibilities and duties.  

Panel Lawyers Akumla Longchari, Zekuseto, Temsu Walling and Sunjib Rana shared their experiences on Legal Awareness Programmes, Court Cases, Legal Aid Clinics and Manning Front Office. V. Ashu Theyo, Legal Aid Cousel, NNP+, NLSA and Joshua Sheqi, Retainer and Panel Lawyer KDLSA were the programme moderators.  

The programme was followed by interactive session where the action plan for 2016 was discussed and the various problems and lapses during the past years were discussed and redressed.
