Wokha, April 28 (MExN): The Lotha Eloe Hoho (LEH) silver jubilee celebration with the theme ‘indigenous women as knowledge keepers’ commenced at Tiyi Hall, Wokha on April 28. Chairperson, Indian Red Cross Society, Nagaland State Branch and Advisor to Naga Mothers ‘Association (NMA), Abeni TCK Lotha graced the celebration as the special guest, stated a DIPR report.
Addressing the celebration, Naga Mothers Association (NMA), President, Abei Meru said, “Our Naga society is broken by differences of all kind, as mothers we must stand for the future of our children. On issues of peace, we stand for inclusion of all groups for a lasting peace.”
“Our brothers must listen to the call for peace,” she asserted.
She also acknowledged that the formation of NMA had Lotha Women leaders holding important position. “The Lotha Eloe Hoho over the years has been led by strong women of principle and grace, women who have stood for peace and justice and later for Naga Women’s rights,” she said.
Remembering former Chairperson of LEH, late Thungchano Tsanglao for her strong leadership and the contribution made for women reservation, Meru said, “we remain grateful to the LEH for the decade of struggle together as women organisation.”
The special guest in her address emphasized on cultural identity, the role of women folks in protecting and promoting cultural trades and practices.
She urged the women folks to have “rational thinking with perseverance” and explore beyond, since the women community has always been a backbone for social up-liftment and protecting the interest of Lothas in particular and Nagas in general.
Stating that Lotha ancestors were visionary and resilient, she called upon the gathering to share the history with the younger generation so that they would live to uphold and inherit the ancestors’ good deeds.
Nagaland State Women Commission, Chairperson, Khrinou Tachu while greeting the celebration, said “Lotha women have been trail blazers in many fields.” She said, “Lotha women have been lifting the status of Naga women because of the many achievers amongst you who were/are top notch bureaucrats, eminent academicians, police officers, enlightened entrepreneurs and as knowledge keepers of traditions and culture.”
“Realize your inner strengths that are endowed within you to become efficient leaders and pathfinders in all domains of your family, social and political life,” she said while adding, “I wish to request all stakeholders, especially Lotha Hoho and families to continue support women and the girl child and provide safe space and create opportunities to shape women leaders of tomorrow.”
Further, she reiterated that “Naga women are known for our resilience, our role as repositories of tradition and knowledge and as reformers indispensable for creating a just society.” Therefore, keeping with the true essence of an ideal Naga woman, let us harness all our strength and will power towards a fair, equal and just Naga society,” she added.
