The Lotha Hoho on Friday felicitated Lumchibeni T Kikon of Perennial School, Wokha, for securing a perfect score of 100 marks in the Lotha (MIL) subject in the HSLC examination 2026 conducted by the Nagaland Board of School Education (NBSE).

Speaking at the felicitation programme, Lotha Hoho Chairman Mhondamo Ovung commended the achiever, stating, “Such accomplishments bring honour to the community and must be encouraged to promote our language and tradition.”

He remarked, “Our identity is not defined merely by wearing traditional attire, but by our ability to speak and write our mother tongue.” Referring to the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, he added that “greater emphasis has been placed on regional and mother tongues, and it is important for us to actively use the Lotha language in our daily lives and public platforms.”

Leaders of Lotha frontal organisations also extended their appreciation. Thungbeni Ngullie, President of Lotha Eloe Hoho, noted, “Her achievement is a proud moment for the community and a reminder of the importance of our language.” Mharomo Murry, President of Lotha Youth Hoho, stated, “Young achievers like her inspire others to take pride in learning and preserving their mother tongue.” Zubenthung Ngullie, President of Lotha Students’ Union, added, “We hope she will continue to excel and become an example for students who are hesitant in speaking and writing their own language.”

It was also highlighted that Lumchibeni had received the Governor’s Award for securing full marks in the subject. Sharing her thoughts, Lumchibeni stressed the significance of language in shaping identity, saying, “A community that cannot speak or write its mother tongue cannot truly claim its identity.” She added, “Our tradition and identity begin with our language, and it is our responsibility to preserve it.”

The programme was attended by family members, well-wishers, and representatives from Lotha Hoho, Lotha Eloe Hoho, Lotha Youth Hoho, Lotha Students’ Union, and the GBs Union. Samuel Ovung, Associate Pastor of Wokha Town Baptist Church, offered a prayer for the achiever, while Yihamo Patton, Cultural Secretary of Lotha Hoho, chaired the event.
