More than 230 job hopefuls, mostly graduates and postgraduates turned up at the job fair today held at Dimapur District Employment Exchange Office. The fair was jointly organized by the National Career Service Centre for SC/ST Kohima, District Employment Exchange Dimapur, and the National Career Service Centre (differently-abled) Dimapur. This collaborative effort was aimed to bring together employers and job seekers on a common platform, with a particular focus on individuals from the SC/ST community and Persons with Disabilities (PwDs), promoting equal opportunities and inclusivity.

Interacting with The Morung Express, majority of the youths, who were first-time job seekers expressed their gratitude and happiness for the opportunity provided by the job fair. They acknowledged that such ample opportunities were not a common occurrence in a city struggling with educated unemployed youths. One postgraduate applicant, who was applying at SBI Life, considered themselves fortunate to have such an event in the district and hoped that the youths would seize the opportune moment. Persons with disabilities also applied for several career opportunities.

The youths had various sources of information about the job fair. Some learned about it through social media advertisements, while others were informed by their parents or through WhatsApp church groups. A fresh graduate discovered the fair while searching for job opportunities online.

The job fair aims to provide a platform for job seekers to explore potential career paths and secure gainful employment, ensuring equal opportunities for all individuals.

On the sidelines of the event, the District Employment Officer Gideon L Sumi emphasized their commitment to fostering an inclusive workforce by promoting equal opportunities irrespective of background or ability. He also mentioned that the Central Ministry of Labour and Employment has approved the District Employment Exchange Dimapur for establishment of a Model Career Centre (MCC) and is waiting for the State government to implement it. This upgrade would further enhance the capabilities of the exchange in facilitating career development and employment opportunities for the local population, he added. They intend to hold such events quarterly.

Emporium Skills Training Institute, Talent Acquaintance, Nagaland Tool Room and Training Centre (NTTC), Gogives Recruitment Agency, SBI Life and National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) North-East were the oragnisations who partnered with the government for the job placements.
