Paid holiday declared for Koridang electors on poll-day

Kohima, March 25 (MExN): The Home Department, Government of Nagaland, has declared a paid holiday on April 9, 2026, for all electors in the 28-Koridang (ST) Assembly Constituency, where a bye-election is scheduled to be held.

According to a notification issued under Section 135B of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, the day of poll on Thursday, April 9, 2026 shall be a paid holiday for every person who is an elector in the said constituency and is employed in government, banks, financial institutions, private business establishments, industrial undertakings or any other establishment. This includes daily wage and casual workers, in the said Constituency, to enable all such persons to exercise their franchise.

The provision also covers electors working on a shift basis in any establishment or shop.

Further, the notification stated that electors who are ordinarily residents of the constituency and registered there, but are employed in an industrial undertaking or establishment located outside the constituency, would also be entitled to the benefit of a paid holiday. In such a situation, even those electors, including casual workers working outside the said Constituency, would be entitled to the benefit of a paid holiday.

However, the provisions shall not apply to any elector whose absence may cause danger or substantial loss in respect of the employment in which he/she is engaged, it added.
