Dimapur, September 19 (MExN): Nagaland’s first Paralympic bronze medallist, Hokato Hotozhe Sema, received a grand welcome at Dimapur Airport on Tuesday. The reception was organized by the Western Sumi Hoho and other frontal organizations, with representatives from civil societies, NGOs, the Central Nagaland Tribes Council (CNTC), and various tribal Hohos and student bodies joining in to celebrate the athlete’s remarkable achievement.
Hokato, hailing from P. Vihoto Village in Aghunaqa area of Niuland, secured a bronze medal in the Men’s F57 shot put event at the 2024 Paris Paralympic Games, a feat that has brought immense pride to the state. Upon his arrival, a large crowd gathered at the airport to honor his dedication and success, which has etched Nagaland’s name in the international sports arena.
Addressing the gathering, Hokato expressed his gratitude for the overwhelming support and shared the challenges he faced leading up to the competition. “A week before the Paralympics, I suffered injuries and was down with fever. But my determination to win a medal for Nagaland kept me going strong. By God’s grace and the support of the people, I was able to achieve this,” he said.
Hokato emphasized that his goal has always been to bring a medal home, inspired by the success stories of athletes from other northeastern states. “I am proud to represent Nagaland and to have made history by securing a bronze medal on the international stage,” he added.
He concluded by thanking the people of Nagaland for their prayers and support throughout his journey, dedicating his success to them.
