‘Use AI to help you think, not do all your thinking,’ students urged
Chümoukedima, July 21 (MExN): Patkai Christian College (Autonomous) held its 4th Graduation Ceremony for the Class of 2026 at the Bundrock Chapel Auditorium on July 21, with graduates urged to uphold integrity, embrace lifelong learning and use artificial intelligence responsibly.
Delivering the commencement address, Dr Kevezai Tureng, Director, College Development Council, Nagaland University, and an alumnus of the college, highlighted Patkai's pioneering contribution to higher education in Nagaland.
He noted that Patkai was among the first colleges in the State to attain autonomous status under the University Grants Commission (UGC), reflecting its commitment to academic excellence.
Encouraging the graduates to live by the college motto, ‘Light and Truth,’ Tureng stressed that genuine success should not be measured merely by academic qualifications but also by character, honesty and integrity.
He urged the graduates to combine faith with action, remain open to diverse career opportunities beyond conventional government employment and cultivate the habit of continuous learning in an ever-evolving world.
Addressing the growing influence of artificial intelligence, Tureng advised the graduates to use AI responsibly as a tool for learning, innovation and problem-solving without becoming overly dependent on it.
“Use artificial intelligence to help you think, but do not allow it to do all your thinking for you,” he told the graduating class.
Earlier, Principal Dr Thepfuvilie Pierii welcomed the gathering and congratulated the graduating students while acknowledging the support of families and educators in helping them reach the academic milestone.
Speaking on behalf of the postgraduate graduates, Pekivi K Kiho expressed gratitude to the institution and those who supported them throughout their academic journey.
Representing the undergraduate graduates, Kangpila Anar reflected that Patkai had been more than an academic institution, describing it as a place where students discovered themselves, forged lasting friendships and grew into responsible individuals.
The ceremony also witnessed the presentation of the Dr Satuo Sekhose Memorial Academic Excellence Award to Shangyaola Jajo for outstanding academic achievement.
Gold medals and degree certificates were also presented to meritorious graduates.
The graduating students subsequently took the Graduates’ Pledge and were formally inducted into the Alumni Association of Patkai Christian College.
The programme commenced with an academic procession, followed by an invocation by College Chaplain Rev Dr Vichukho Ngukha. It was attended by the college’s founder Rev Dr TA Shishak, members of the governing bodies, faculty, staff, parents, guardians and graduating students. A musical presentation by MSSM was also part of the programme.
