Chümoukedima, May 4 (MExN): Patkai Christian College hosted an inter-departmental talk on media, language and communication, bringing together students and faculty of the English and Mass Communication departments for an academic exchange on contemporary media practices and interdisciplinary learning.

Velu Nyekha (M.A. IV Semester, English) presented a paper titled “The Poetics of Persuasion: Narrative Strategies and Power in Media Discourse,” highlighting that media narratives shape public perception and are not neutral. She urged audiences to critically engage with media content and examine underlying narratives.
Joy Arücho (B.A. VI Semester, Mass Communication) spoke on “Marketing Communication in the Digital Era,” noting that evolving consumer behaviour and the shift to interactive digital platforms have made algorithm-driven content a key influence on audience preferences and perceptions.
Songaror Horam (B.A. IV Semester, English) presented on “The Semiotics of Posters and Graffiti,” explaining how meaning is constructed through signs and symbols, and observed that public spaces function as sites of communication shaped by both institutional authority and individual expression.
Grace C Ezung (B.A. VI Semester, Mass Communication) discussed “Cinematographic Language in Constructing Diegetic Logic and Meaning-Making,” highlighting the role of visual and auditory techniques such as composition, lighting, colour and sound in engaging audiences.
The programme began with an invocation by Rehungzeule (B.A. IV Semester, English) and was hosted by Toshisola (M.A. IV Semester, English). An interactive question-and-answer session followed.
