Patton appeals against escalating tensions

DIMAPUR, MAY 4 (MExN): Nagaland Deputy Chief Minister Y Patton has appealed to all the Nagas of Nagaland that may be stranded at the ongoing social unrest in the state of Manipur, to contact the helpline given out by the Home department and PHQ for necessary assistance and arrangements to reach home.

Patton in a telephonic conversation with the Chief Minister of Manipur, Biren Singh, requested his intervention for the safety of Nagaland students, employees, patients and business persons staying or visiting Manipur, for which the latter gave his assurance for their safety and well-being.

The Deputy CM also apprised that places of worship should not be a target for arson and vandalism. The Chief Minister of Manipur said his office will coordinate with the Nagaland government to ensure that there is no communication gap leading to untoward incidents, a press release from the Deputy CM’s media cell stated.

While conveying condolences to the people who lost their precious lives, Patton appealed to the people not to spread rumors that may fuel or escalate the situation. "Nagaland and Manipur are good neighbors and we should live in harmony. We also pray for peace and understanding among groups in Manipur and hope that normalcy returns sooner than later in the land," he added.
