DIMAPUR, MARCH 9 (MExN): Nagaland Chief Minister, Neiphiu Rio today stated that the Progressive Democratic Alliance (PDA) has “much more work to do” as it celebrated two years at the helm of government in Nagaland.

The two year anniversary was celebrated with a thanksgiving programme on March 9 at Niathu Resort, Chümoukedima.

"We are privileged and this privilege comes with a lot of responsibilities particularly our society, because we have so many long pending issues, many issues to be resolved and also policies for the future for the well being of our people," Rio said, according to a report from the DIPR.

He pointed out that the PDA has worked together through thick and thin coming across many challenges and overcoming the hurdles in the past 2 years.

He thanked all alliance partners, colleagues and the public for “reposing faith on me.” “I can function provided you give your support and cooperation and together we can work for the welfare of our people and continue to work in harmony to complete the full term,” Rio maintained.

A PDA achievement booklet was also released during the programme. The CM reiterated that the PDA Government's top most priority is the Naga political issue. He informed that the core committee of the Joint Legislature Forum has been formed to approach the different Naga groups and also to talk to mass based civil societies and NGOs.

Rio further spoke on the ILP, RIIN and relaxation of land laws. In this, he assured to continue to take up all developmental activities. Acknowledging the efforts of all officers led by the Chief Secretary, Rio noted that programmes and policies of the government are being implemented by the bureaucracy. Without them we could not achieve anything, Rio said.

Meanwhile, expressing concern on the COVID 19 outbreak, the CM said that all necessary measures are being taken and the Health and Family Welfare Department is doing its best.

Deputy Chief Minister, Y Patton said: "Two years ago we came together to form the PDA Government with the mandate of the people, and committed  to provide strong and stable Government and to deliver good governance to the people, and BJP assures to continue to work with trust and mutual respect even in the days to come."

He further appreciated people's participation in delivering good governance in the State. "Let us reaffirm, rededicate to work harder for more glorious distinction,” Patton encouraged.

Co-Chairman, PDA, and H&TE Minister, Temjen Imna Along expressed optimism that the PDA Alliance would complete the 5 year term as mandated by the people. "We resolve to go on together not only to serve the people but also to give good governance to the people. Each and every department would try to do our best so that governance reaches to all the people," he maintained.

Chief Secretary, Temjen Toy noted that significant achievements have been made during the past 2 years in promoting tourism, sports, music and in the road sector. He reminded that it is incumbent upon all to move with sincerity towards reaching greater heights in serving the people.
