PDSA’s 36th Meet kick off in Thenyizu

The People's Democratic Alliance (PDA) government in Nagaland under the leadership of Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio is committed to promote games and sports in the state, Deputy Chief Minister (Dy CM), Y Patton stated today.
“The government of the day is encouraging the sports talents of the state to put Nagaland on the sports map of India and even in the international levels,” he maintained while gracing the inaugural function of Phek District Sports Association (PDSA) 36th Meet cum 1st Naga Style Category Wrestling Meet.
The five-day long event is being held in Thenyizu village.
Patton further commended the Chakhesang community for always being at the forefront in different areas, especially in the field of games and sports.
“The vision and leadership provided by our Chakhesang community is unmatched,” he said, adding that, “Chakhesang brethren are immensely blessed with great physique suitable for games and sports which is a great advantage too.”
Today, our Naga society needs unity irrespective of the geographical and linguistic differences, he said.
Patton also said he was proud that Phek district has produced a daughter in the like of Chekrovolu Swuro, who has won medals in national and international archery competition and also participated in 2012 Olympic Games.
Stating that games and sports is all about skill, strength, stamina and determination, Patton said “It is also about leading a disciplined life.”
“We, Nagas are naturally talented and second to none in the field of games and sports,” he said.
Patton also inaugurated late Kronyi Kapu Memorial Ground at Thenyizu. He also announced Rs 15 lakh for road maintenance leading to the ground.
Also addressing the gathering, Nagaland’s Planning & Coordination, Land Revenue and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Neiba Kronu said that sportspersons are considered as the most respected and the most important people in the society.
To this end, Kronu asserted that the sportspersons have to focus towards quality and professionalism and always aim to perform better than others.
Advising sportspersons to be serious, he said one should not be satisfied with the same standard but work harder and change for better.
Kronu also announced Rs 10 lakh for construction of mini gallery in the newly constructed ground.
Advisers Dr Longrineken, Kazheto Kinimi and Toshi Wungtong accompanied the Dy CM.
The inaugural function was chaired by PDSA advisor Colo Mero while PDSA president Nezosa Tetseo delivered presidential address.
Welcome address was delivered by Thenyizumi Village VDB secretary Thepukrayi Nienu while CAGSA president Vekhayi Ruho shared greetings.
PDSA athletics secretary Chotha Soho administered oath to the participating teams.
The meet will continue till March 27.
