PDA govt has opened opportunities for sportspersons: Kevipodi Sophie

MLA 14th Southern Angami I AC, Kevipodi Sophie said today the scope for sportsperson has widened due to opportunities created by the present PDA government where sportsperson not only excel in the profession but also get employment through sports. 

He was speaking at the closing function and flag down ceremony of the 62nd Southern Angami Sports Association Wrestling cum 3rd Edition of Dzükou Cup, 2024 at Kimipfuphe Ground, Kigwema Village today. 

The speaker said apart from employment opportunities, the government has opened up various schemes to support entrepreneurship for educated unemployed youths. He cited an instance where reservation is also kept for sportsperson. 

Sports, he maintained, is also a very important part of education and if taken seriously with determination, the area will give them opportunity to become successful. Not just during sports meet but if one is to take it further, then, the speaker said sports can give the person many opportunities to shine. 

He lauded the SASA members for organizing the programme in a concise manner and also congratulated all sportspersons for giving their best efforts in different disciplines. 

Sophie said the conclusion of the games meet gives the sportsperson an opportunity to do better and perform better while raising the standard of the games in disciplines, punctuality among others. 

The MLA, while stressing on the importance of keeping time, lamented that the people of Southern Angami Region lack in punctuality, which is one of the most important factor that sportspersons should adhere to. Sophie, therefore, called for inculcating the habit of punctuality first and foremost. 

He further reminded the youths to be determined in any field they pursue as there was no sustenance for complacent attitude. 
Apart from being competitive, putting ones best in all criteria during competition defines what kind of sportsperson one is.  In this regard, Sophie also mentioned the importance of avoiding bad and unhealthy eating habits including use of alcoholic and other addictive substance. 

He called the sportspersons and villages to reflect and contemplate on how they has played the games so that they can make a better comeback.

3rd Kidima Village emerges champion of Dzükou Cup 
During the 2 days games meet, Kidima Village emerged champion of the 3rd Edition of Dzükou Cup defeating Jakhama Village by 3-0. Dupisa Pucho scored the first goal for the team in the 4th minute of the first half. The other two goals came from Kevisekho in the 20th minute and the 40th minute of the second half. 

In men’s volleyball, Kigwema Village was declared champion after defeating Phesama Village in the finals.  In women’s volleyball, Kidima Village emerged as the champion of the tournament after winning against Kezo town.
