DIMAPUR, JUNE 30 (MExN): NPCC president, Sungit Jamir asserted that the Naga people were tired of the ruling NPF which he alleged has used 10 years of power to corrupt the society.
“Now people are looking at us (Congress) to salvage them from this grave situation,” Sungit said addressing party workers during NPCC co-ordination meeting with Dimapur District Congress Committee (DDCC) at its party office on Saturday. He also said 10 years was long enough for the Congress party to be in Opposition.
He claimed that the Naga people and the state government servants alike were “fed up” of the NPF government while the youth were “angry” and they were all looking up to Congress. “If we fail to live up to their expectations, we will be failing in our duty,” Sungit said and urged party workers to uplift and strengthen the party set up. He said the main objective of the party would be to provide suitable employment to the unemployed youth.
Referring to NPF allegations that there was wide rift within Congress party, the NPCC president said there was no reason why the Congress party workers should be confused because of NPF’s propaganda when Congress leaders were duly elected by bonafide members of the party itself.
He accused the NPF government of failing on all fronts including development and even politically. He said NPF was without any party principle and that their manifesto was “money.” Cautioning its party workers that the NPF would use monetary influences during the next state general elections, Sungit said, “We should be mentally prepared to fight the monetary of NPF.”
He alleged that whatever funds were sanctioned by the UPA government to Nagaland never actually reached the grassroots people but disappeared in the middle. He said that the AICC has formed monitoring committees on Centrally Sponsored Schemes in all districts across the country to see that the funds were judiciously used.
The NPCC president described Congress as more than a political party but a people’s movement which would remain whether or not it is in power.
Cong hopes history will repeat
Pointing to the political history of the state which has never been ruled by any party for the third consecutive term, Nagaland Congress has said that history will repeat and that it was time for NPF to go and Congress to come in.
NPCC vice president and party incharge of Dimapur, Nillo Rengma made this political prediction and expressed full faith that Congress will bounce back to power. He also recalled DAN’s promise of solving the Naga political issue within six months of coming to power but that it was 10 years now and nothing has taken place. “What will they tell the Naga people?” he queried.
Referring to NPF comment that there were too many leaders within Congress owing to which leadership crisis was visible, Nillo said having abundance of leaders was strength for the party. He said there was no division or crisis within the Congress party as alleged. Nillo said the Congress would fight the coming election under the leadership of NPCC president and CLP leader.
During the co-ordination meeting, AICC presidents, frontal chiefs and representatives of mahilla and youth wings spoke presenting the party status in their respective areas.
