People of Kiphire cry for peace

A public peace rally was organized at the main police point on June 26, at Kiphire. Around an estimated one thousand people from every walk of life attended the peace rally to express their cry for peace in Kiphire in particular and Kiphire district in general. The rally was organized by GBs of Kiphire and Kiphire Town Council. Leaders from different organizations, who took part in the rally, lent a desperate voice for restoration of peace and normalcy in the district.

Addressing the public gathering, the speakers, reflecting the tense situation and fear psychosis of the general public, called upon the different factions to return to their designated camps and to refrain from firing and clashing in the civilian areas.

At the rally, the general public of Kiphire also decided that the resolution adopted earlier in the year 2000 will be re-affirmed for implementation in letter and spirit. It was affirmed that in order to maintain peace and tranquility within Kiphire town, no underground faction should reside or move around with uniforms and arms in civilian inhabited areas; strong opposition against factional clashes, killing and bloodshed in any manner within Kiphire district. It was also resolved that in the event any faction/group violates the resolutions, the public of Kiphire town in particular and the public of Kiphire district in general would not cooperate in any manner.  The resolutions were endorsed on behalf of the public by Yangkimong, President of KDGBA, C Nyoji , President Yimchunger Community, Shikato Zhimo, President Sumi Community, TV Litsaba, Joint Secretary of the GBs Federation Nagaland, R. Joshua Sangtam, Chairman KTC, K. Tsilise, Deputy Chairman KTC, R. Throngethe, Chairman A. Committee of the USLB, Chopili, Ex-Secretary, USSC and Ramji GB, Tikhir Community.

The peace rally was chaired by TV Litsaba, Joint Secretary, Nagaland GBs Federation and Joshua Sangtam Chairman KTC moved the public resolution and concluded with a slogan “we want peace, we condemn factional killings”. Earlier in the rally, the invocation was pronounced by Chopongkyu, pastor SBC. The benediction was pronounced by Pastor Yimchunger Baptist Church.
