Peren, May 6 (MExN): The ongoing foothills road project and the need for additional land to meet long-term infrastructure requirements were among the key issues discussed during the monthly meeting of the District Planning and Development Board (DPDB), Peren, held at the Deputy Commissioner’s Conference Hall on May 6.
Chairing the meeting, Deputy Commissioner and Vice Chairman, DPDB Peren, Hiazu Meru briefed the members in detail on the status of the foothills road project, following which representatives of tribal hohos shared their views on the matter.
As per the State DIPR, the tribal bodies, including the Nzeliangrong People’s Organisation (NZPO) and Kuki Inpi, were asked to hold wider consultations with stakeholders and work towards a consensus.
They were also requested to persuade stakeholders to provide an additional three metres of land for the project, as the existing 12-metre road width was stated to be inadequate for future requirements.
The meeting also reviewed the minutes of the previous session and discussed other agenda items, including approval of the proposal to rename GPS Lower Gaili as Gaili Namdi following official recognition of the village.
The proposal was approved by the house for further course of action.
The meeting also deliberated on the proposed inter-departmental tournament to be held at the district headquarters this year, for which an organising committee was constituted.
