
Peren, July 30 (MExN): The Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) of Peren Town and Peren Village Council will impose an indefinite bandh of interstate movement of vehicles by blocking the National Highway 129A connecting Nagaland and Manipur (Tepuiki Bridge) from July 31.
The bandh is imposed on account of the unaddressed issue of National Highway 129A Package 1 (Peren Town portion) despite numerous appeals made and submission of memorandums, informed a press release.
The indefinite bandh is scheduled to commence from July 31 and the public is informed to gather at Government Higher Secondary School Junction at 9 AM, to march towards Tepuiki Bridge at 9:30 AM, it said.
In view, all the commercial shops established in Peren Town are advised to completely shut down from 6AM-4PM on July 31. However Pharmacist will be exempted from the bandh, it added.
The CSOs Peren Town and Peren Village Council also requested the general public to extend support and participate in the agitation to show “resentment and discontentment exhibited towards the public of the Town and the land owners of Peren.”
Meanwhile, in a travel advisory issued on July 28, the Joint Action Committee NH 129A Package 1 (Peren Town portion) informed the general commuters to avoid taking the route and plan their journey accordingly in view of the proposed bandh.
However, district administration, police, para military forces, medical emergencies, and press & media are exempted from the purview of the bandh, it added.
According to the Committee, the bandh is imposed account of indifferent attitude of NHIDCL (National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd) on the concerns raised by the CSOs Peren Town and Peren Village Council.
