Peren village councils clarify on “disputed land”

Dimapur, December 1 (MExN): New Peren Village Council and Kejanglwa Village Council refute claims made by the Zeliangrong People’s Organisation (ZPO) that the new site for Peren District Hq. is a “disputed land” and that the headquarter must not be shifted.
Disputing claims made by the ZPO, a joint statement issued today by Kejanglwa Village Council Secretary, Amiabe and New Peren Village Council Chairman, Namnabi Heguy clarified that Old Peren, New Peren and Kejanglwa and the Government of Nagaland have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and several Deeds of Agreement which were supported and witnessed by the Zeliagrong Baudi, Nagaland implicating that the land offered is undisputed.  Therefore, the issue of land dispute does not arise and is not relevant now, the councils stated.
Further questioning ZPO’s authority on branding their land as “disputed,” the village councils stated that ZPO did not bother to verify with the land owners on the issue. It further questioned where the ZPO was when the MoU was signed and also doubted the ZPO in trying to derail development in the district. “We are shocked to see that the so called ZPO have been a stumbling block in all the progress and development of the district. The ZPO is an unmadated and self style organisation as such it has no public support and has no moral right to raise this issue. The state government is requested not to take any decision based on the statement of ZPO,” the councils stated.
While extending full support to the government, the village councils have made an appeal to the State Government to expedite the pace of development and shift the HQ within a stipulated period of time.
