Youth urged to pursue sports as career

Noklak, January 12 (MExN): The Peshu Students’ Union (PSU) on Monday marked a historic milestone by celebrating its 25th anniversary at Peshu village in Noklak district.

The Silver Jubilee celebration was graced by MLA and Advisor for Youth Resources and Sports, and Chairman of DPDB Shamator, S Keoshu Yimkhiung, as the special guest.

Addressing students and community members, Yimkhiung emphasised the need for a shift in how youth perceive physical activities, stating that sports should no longer be viewed merely as a recreational or fun activity but as a professional career pathway. He encouraged the youth to identify their hidden talents, refine them with dedication and pursue them as a vocation.

Highlighting the vast opportunities in the modern sports industry, the advisor said sports could pave the way for a successful future if pursued with discipline, commitment and focus.

As Chairman of DPDB Shamator, Yimkhiung also underscored the role of youth in regional development and challenged PSU members to use the 25th anniversary as a launching pad for excellence, not only in academics but also in sports and physical resources.

Congratulating the union on completing 25 years of service to the student community, MLA and General Secretary of the Nagaland Football Association and Chairman of the Governing Body of the Nagaland Super League (NSL), Benei M Lamthiu, lauded the PSU for prioritising sports. Addressing athletes and youth, he said sports play a vital role in community building and urged players to uphold the highest standards of fair play and unity.
