Petitioners agree to drop suit against Sümi Hoho

DIMAPUR, APRIL 13 (MExN): A joint consultative meeting of the Sümi Legislators' Forum with Sümi Frontal Organizations and petitioners in the civil suit Abel & 6 Others Vs Dr Vihuto Assümi & Anr on Monday resolved to withdraw of the suit and refer the petitioners' constitutional proposals to the Sümi Hoho for deliberation and possible amendments.

The meeting was convened on April 13 at Pahari Lodge, Kohima, under the leadership of G Kaito Aye, Minister for Roads & Bridges and Convenor of the Sümi Legislators' Forum.

The first resolution, adopted unanimously by the House, commits the petitioners to withdrawing the civil suit filed against the President of Sümi Hoho and the Office of Sümi Hoho, “in the larger interest of the Sümi community and in the spirit of unity and reconciliation.”

The second resolution directs that the proposals submitted by the petitioners be “duly placed before the Sümi Hoho for deliberation,” with such amendments to the Constitution “as may be deemed necessary.”

The petitioners, in their submissions during the business session, articulated concerns over certain provisions of the Sümi Hoho Constitution and placed their proposals before the House. They also expressed willingness to withdraw the suit in the community's broader interest.

The business session was moderated by Kohima Sümi Hoho President Shiwoto Wotsa. Representatives of the Sümi Frontal Organizations, led by Sümi Kükami Hoho President Akükau Hetoho S. Zhimo, shared their perspectives and underscored the need for unity and institutional integrity.

 

A presentation on the Sümi Hoho Constitution was delivered by Phuleto Yepthomi, District and Sessions Judge, Zunheboto, who outlined relevant constitutional provisions and flagged areas where amendments could be considered. Sümi Hoho Advisor I. Nikheto Zhimo, addressing the House on behalf of the apex body, “reiterated the institution's commitment to its constitutional framework while remaining receptive to constructive proposals.”

Sümi Youth Organization President Hikavi H Kinimi, in his keynote address, credited the Youth Organization for steering the parties towards a workable resolution and called for upholding “Sümi identity, unity, and the institutional integrity of the community.”

The address session featured speeches by legislators and advisors including Er Picto Shohe, MLA; Hekani Jakhalu, Advisor for Industries and Commerce; G Ikuto Zhimomi, Advisor for Land Resources; Dr. Sukhato A Sema, MLA; and S Toiho Yeptho, Deputy Speaker. They commended the dialogue that defined the meeting, describing it as “a significant achievement and a progressive step towards unity and collective progress for the Sümi tribe.”

In his concluding remarks, Kaito Aye expressed appreciation to all participants and called on all concerned to implement the resolutions “in both letter and spirit.”

The House also placed on record its appreciation to the Sümi Legislators' Forum, its Convenor, and the Sümi Youth Organization for the groundwork that made the meeting possible. It further commended the petitioners and all Sümi Frontal Organizations for their “maturity, goodwill and willingness to arrive at a mutual understanding” to withdraw the case from the Civil Court.
