PGC inaugurates new Science, Arts blocks

KOHIMA, JUNE 5 (MExN): The Science Block and New Arts Block of Pfutsero Government College were inaugurated on June 4 by Temjen Imna Along, Minister for Higher Education and Tourism, Government of Nagaland, in the presence of Neisatuo Mero.

Speaking at the programme, Along appreciated the completion of the Science Block in a record time of two years and expressed optimism that more developmental projects would follow. Emphasising the importance of education, particularly science education, he reiterated the Higher Education Department’s commitment to strengthening the state’s human resources.

Addressing the gathering, Mero called upon teachers to be role models for students, stating that students closely observe their teachers’ teaching, behaviour and conduct.

 

Earlier, Principal Anungla Pongener welcomed the inauguration of the two buildings and highlighted some of the college’s immediate needs, including furniture, laboratory equipment, improved road connectivity, student hostels, reliable internet facilities, and additional support for teaching and non-teaching staff.

According to a technical report presented by the NPWD (Housing), the Science Block was constructed at a cost of Rs 4.7 crore with a total built-up area of 936 square metres. The building comprises seven classrooms with an average seating capacity of 60 students each, three laboratories for Biology, Physics and Chemistry, and faculty and Head of Department rooms for the Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology departments.

 

The Arts Block was constructed at a cost of Rs 4.4 crore with a total built-up area of 856 square metres. It contains ten classrooms with an average seating capacity of 60 students each, dedicated facilities for Heads of Departments and faculty members, and separate toilet facilities for faculty and HoDs.

The programme began at the new campus with the unveiling of a commemorative plaque, led by Wetsou Medo. Neingupe Chiero offered the dedicatory prayer, after which the gathering proceeded to the old campus for the formal inaugural programme.

The inaugural session was chaired by Vizolenuo Sophie. Speeches were delivered by K. Hukato Swu and other dignitaries. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Neiko Ritse, followed by a luncheon.
