Dimapur, May 18 (MExN): Minister for PHED Ngangshi K Ao and Secretary to the Government of Nagaland Zhaleo Rio, PHED staffers, leaders of Kohima village and some citizens visited Kohima village today to inspect the Kohima water supply project.
The water supply project began during 2009-2010 and completed within one year. The minister’s office said in a note today that the logistics involved in getting the water from its source at Vürie Rü, through Kohima town and to the reservoir at Kohima Village was challenging. However, the efforts of the department aided by active support of the Kohima Village Youth Organization and Kohima Village Council resulted in the implementation of the said scheme, the PHED office said.
The supply from the main reservoir is 2, 00,000 liters per day and is expected to reach 4, 00,000 liters during monsoon. This reservoir supplies clean portable water to all the four wards of Kohima village. Kohima village, despite being contiguous to the capital town could not be supplied with clean portable water, until the implementation of this scheme, the minister’s office said.
‘The project was possible due to the keen interest taken by the state government. It is hoped that others also come forward to actively involve themselves (Community-Government Co-ordination) and reap development for their people under the progressive DAN Government of Nagaland,’ the note stated.
