Dimapur, October 6 (MExN): The National Voluntary Blood Donation Day was observed on October 1, 2011 at Government Higher Secondary School, Phek and organized by District AIDS Prevention and Control Unit (DAPCU), Phek.
The resource person of the program was Dr Rongsen, Medical Officer in-charge of Blood Bank District Hospital, Phek. He spoke on the topic ‘Facts about blood donation’ and encouraged the participants to donate blood to saves someone’s lives in time of need. He also explained that through donating blood, various kinds of diseases such as HIV, malaria, syphilis, blood grouping, Rh typing, HBC and HVC can be screened for healthy consciousness. Also, Sakhoveyi Lohe, District Program Officer, DAPCU in his speech shared the basic facts of HIV/AIDS and urged the participants to do voluntary testing in the designated centers to know their HIV status.
Around 350 participants attended the program, 90 volunteers go for blood grouping and 40 opted for voluntary HIV testing. This was followed by interaction. Earlier the program was chaired by the DPO and the vote of thanks was pronounced by Kuduvo kezo, District ICTC Supervisor, Phek.
