First round of the National Deworming Day campaign for 2026 launched at Bishop Abraham Memorial School, Phek Town on March 10.

Phek, March 10 (MExN): The first round of the National Deworming Day (NDD) campaign for 2026 was launched in Phek District on March 10 at Bishop Abraham Memorial School, Phek Town.

The programme aims to protect children and adolescents in the 1–19 years age group from worm infestations by administering free Albendazole tablets through schools and Anganwadi centres across the district.

Speaking at the launching ceremony, Dr Khriekuolie Liezietsu, District Programme Officer (RMNCHA+N), informed that NDD is observed twice a year, followed by a mop-up round to ensure maximum coverage. He described the initiative as “one of the most powerful tools” in public health, enabling children to grow strong, stay active, and improve their learning abilities by preventing worm-related malnutrition and anaemia.

Dr Liezietsu also stressed the importance of adopting good hygiene practices and urged students to follow the “Golden Rules” of health, including washing hands with soap before meals and after using the toilet, keeping nails short, and consuming clean drinking water.

The event witnessed active participation from students and teachers. The deworming drive will be implemented across all health facilities in Phek District, with the mop-up round scheduled for March 17. to ensure that children who missed the initial dose receive the preventive treatment.
