Phek Police register POCSO case, accused arrested

Phek, January 24 (MExN): A case has been registered at the Women Police Station in Phek concerning the alleged sexual assault of a minor girl.

Police stated that a written complaint was received on January 19, alleging that the accused had forcibly taken the complainant's minor daughter to his residence and sexually assaulted her, stated the media cell of Phek Police.

A regular case has been registered under Women/PS/Phek Case No. 0001/2026. The initial charges include sections 64(1), 64(2)(f), 65(2), 74, 75(1)(i)(ii), and 76 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, read with sections 4, 8, and 12 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. Subsequently, sections 127(2) and 137(2) of the BNS were also added to the case.

The alleged accused was arrested on the same day by the Phek Police. He has been forwarded to judicial custody, and the investigation is ongoing. Police assured a timely completion with logical result. 

The police also issued an advisory to the public, urging them to respect the victim’s privacy. They cautioned against circulating any information that could lead to the identification of the victim, noting that such an act is an offence punishable under Section 72 of the BNS, 2023, and Section 23 of the POCSO Act.
