Phek Skill Training of Rural Youth concludes

Phek, September 25 (MExN): Seven days training programme for Skill Training of Rural Youth (STRY) was held at Horticulture Research Farm, Pfutsero from September 14-21 organized by DHO, Phek and ATMA Phek. The programme was sponsored by Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Government of India.  

A press release by Sentinungba longchar Horticulture Officer & Programme Coordinator, STRY stated that the resource person for the training Moalemba, DHO, Phek and PD ATMA Phek, spoke on the importance of ‘Transportation and Marketing of the Fruits and Vegetables’ in rural areas. Meanwhile chairperson and programme coordinator Senti Longchar, HO HRF, Pfutsero welcomed the participants and highlighted the objective of the training programme.  

During interactive session, the participants highlighted their constraints on high transportation rate, improper marketing linkage, lack of inadequate marketing shed, improper price regulation etc and requested the Government to assist them in construction of organic rural market, provide proper packaging materials, transportation facilities, pack house and cold storage facilities for improving the shelf life of the products before marketing and transportation to domestic and national markets.  

A total of 90 participants from 15 different villages attended the training with 15 trainees per programme. The participants also visited retail and wholesale markets. The programme concluded with distribution of certificates to the participants by Kewecheu Khalo, Horticulture Inspector.
