Kuthur, April 23 (MExN): The Phom Peoples' Council (PPC) and Yimkhiung Tribal Council (YTC) on Thursday issued a joint declaration of reconciliation and forgiveness following the reported physical assault on YTC President S Throngso Yimkhiung and his driver on the night of April 17 along NH-702B, the Longleng-Tuensang road near Pongo Village.

In a demonstration of goodwill, both bodies unconditionally forgave one another for the “unfortunate and regrettable” incident, agreeing to treat it as a misunderstanding, during a joint consultative meeting and prayer fellowship held at Kuthur Village Council Hall in Shamator district.

The meeting was convened under the initiative of the Yimkhiung Baptist Church Tuensang Town and Phom Baptist Church Tuensang Town to address the matter in a Christian spirit and foster reconciliation.

A joint declaration signed by PPC President Y B Angam Phom, YTC President S Throngso Yimkhiung, PBCTT Pastor Yongkai and YBCTT Pastor K Yimto stated that both sides, in a spirit of transparency and brotherly love, shared factual details of the events of that night.

It was mutually acknowledged that misunderstandings had led to the escalation of the incident, which threatened the long-standing peaceful coexistence of the two communities.

Recognising the need to preserve long-term unity, harmony and brotherhood, both councils pledged to refrain from any further provocative actions and to resolve future disputes through dialogue and peaceful consultations.

The two bodies also appealed to members of both tribes to maintain peace and restore the cordial relations that existed earlier. Organisations and individuals were further urged to refrain from posting, writing or commenting on the matter on social media to prevent further misunderstanding.

The meeting was attended by Eastern Nagaland Peoples' Organisation President A Chingmak Chang, village elders, gaonburas and leaders from the Phom and Yimkhiung communities.

The programme concluded with a special prayer for healing, peace and unity led by Pastor K Yimto, while the invocation prayer was offered by Pastor Yongkai.
