Dimapur, August 9 (MExN): They say pictures speak a thousand words, and school children in Dimapur did precisely that- spreading awareness on global warming through painting. 19 students of Holy Cross School painted the walls of the District Sessions Judge Office in Dimapur this morning with a message to save the environment. The painting is also meant to deter people from “spitting” on the wall. Colourful thought provoking paintings decorates the wall, giving a fresh look to the otherwise pale wall. Passersby stopped and appreciated the young students who appeared to be having a good time painting despite the drizzle.

A class 9 student, Saikat Dutta who was vigorously painting a ‘poisonous cloud’ explained the theme of the painting he and his team were working on. “Our picture is about industrial pollution. Bad smoke from the industries is harmful for the trees. And you see this rabbit? If the tree dies the rabbit will also die because it won’t have food to eat,” he said as a matter of fact. Another boy explained about the greenhouse effect in his painting. The teacher accompanying the students, Mr. Cajetan said that trough the paintings, they want to make people aware about the environment and also bring a change in mindset. “The pictures say it all. We don’t have to write anything; it is understood,” he quipped.
The event was sponsored by North Eastern Development Finance Corporation Limited (NEDFi), as part of its Corporate Social responsibility programme. Debarshi Bhattacharyya, Branch Manager NEDFi said that August 9 marks the company’s foundation day. In commemoration, the company branches spread across the country selects a theme to raise awareness on social responsibility.
