PIL filed against R&B Department

DIMAPUR, JULY 20 (MExN): A Public Interest Litigation (PIL) has been filed in the Kohima Bench of the Gauhati High Court with regard to the manner of fund utilization by the PWD (R&B) Department of Nagaland State.

The PIL, filed by petitioners ST Yapang and Odi Jamir informed that the petitioners had filed an RTI application dated May 9, 2017 before the Public Information Officer (PIO), Department of Finance, Government of Nagaland. The PIO furnished reply to the application on June 15, 2017, revealing that “the Department of Finance (Budget and Monitoring Cell) has issued 62 withdrawal authority(s) to the Department of Roads and Bridges under demand No. 58 a whopping amount of Rs 342 Crores 22 Lakhs and 8 thousand from May 6, 2016 to March 31, 2017.

The PIL contended that despite the drawal of such an amount within a span of 11 months, there has been rapid deterioration of roads and bridges in the state. The PIL made particular reference to the collapse of the bridge over the Chathe River in Dimapur and the pathetic condition of the Dimapur-Kohima National Highway.

The court has meanwhile listed the matter for four weeks.
