Placebos injected to the Naga mind all these years seem to have strong effects that the society is not able to experience a needed state of epiphany yet; even at this point of time and situation when just one bit of move stands between our ‘ruins and gains.’ It is also anyone’s guess as to what will happen to a society when pheromones are being continuously sent into it. This trend spawns a blend of multifarious characters of the society, sometimes extremely confusing.
Sorry for this tedious piece, but the prevailing configuration prompts to make this observation.
It is also to be noted here that, even as the placebo effect seems to overwhelm the Nagas, the temerity to start imagining ‘our victory’ again appears to be quite a task. This has given all of us a safe reading that defending ‘status quo’ has become a ‘default mode’. This, in turn, points at us back to ask whether those are the signposts of retreat from principles of seeking justice.
We may then ask as to what had happened to those movements around the world which had promoted organisations and leaders bigger than aspirations.
With this, it is also the time to ask whether the perspectives and concepts of ‘justice’ in the context of the Nagas have been changing with circumstances. Or, how close our prevailing ‘discourses’ come to matching our genuine aspiration?
Irrespective of whether one does subscribe to these views or not, definitely a society will continue to display assorted “split” characters in terms of approaches to confronting issues and challenges as long as it is not able to discern its own ‘evil’ characters or nature.
Suffice it to say, discourses will also seldom work in such a situation. But if left unaddressed further, one will witness that priorities and loyalties of the society will be misplaced. When the situation reaches to such a degree, the society is in a vulnerable condition for acquiring a character similar to that of “Spoonerism in action.”
Cambridge Dictionary explains Spoonerism as “a mistake made when speaking in which the first sounds of two words are exchanged with each other to produce a not intended and usually funny meaning.” But for a practical society after acquiring the character its affairs will be Spoonerism in action rather than mere “speaking mistake.”
Some instances of Spoonerism as cited in the free online encyclopedia Wikipedia are: "The Lord is a shoving leopard” instead of saying, "The Lord is a loving shepherd”; or “Belly jeans” instead of “Jelly beans”; or “Fighting a liar” instead of “Lighting a fire.”
One can exercise a guess-work on the implications or consequences of such characters in action.
Taking note of all those cues, we need to do things ‘on purpose’, and not otherwise.
