Maligaon, March 14 (MExN):Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 14 inaugurated six redeveloped railway stations under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, including Kamakhyaguri station under the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), while also dedicating key infrastructure projects and flagging off a new train service in West Bengal.

The other stations  are Tamluk, Haldia, Barabhum, Anara and Siuri, all redeveloped with upgraded passenger amenities and modern infrastructure.

During the programme, the Prime Minister also dedicated two railway infrastructure projects to the nation and flagged off a new train service between Purulia and Anand Vihar Terminal (Delhi), aimed at improving connectivity in the region.

Addressing the gathering, Modi stated that a nationwide drive is underway to modernise Indian Railways, with significant investments being made to expand railway infrastructure in West Bengal.
He noted that the projects are expected to boost trade and industry while making travel easier for lakhs of people by improving connectivity and creating new opportunities.

According to a press release from the NFR, Kamakhyaguri railway station has been redeveloped with modern passenger-friendly infrastructure including a new station building with an improved entrance lobby and circulating area, renovated platforms with Kota-stone surfacing, and a 12-metre-wide Foot Over Bridge (FOB) equipped with lifts to improve accessibility and passenger movement.

Other amenities such as waiting halls, toilet blocks, parking facilities and modern signage systems have also been upgraded.

Beautification works featuring multi-theme lighting and incorporation of local art and cultural elements have also been undertaken to enhance the aesthetics of the station and its surroundings, it added. 

According to the NFR, the redevelopment reflects Indian Railways’ continued focus on modernising station infrastructure and improving passenger facilities.

Under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, a total of 92 railway stations across the NFR are being redeveloped in phases, including 25 stations in West Bengal, aimed at improving passenger amenities and strengthening regional connectivity, it added.
