Phek, May 2 (MExN): A Special Court POCSO Act in Phek has sentenced a man identified as Rukutu Medeo to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment in a case investigated by Phek Police.
According to a press release issued by Phek Police, the case dates back to January 14, 2017, when a written complaint was lodged alleging multiple instances of sexual assault on a minor girl.
Based on the complaint, a case was registered at Pfutsero Women Police Station vide Case No. 0001/2017 under Sections 376(2)(i) and 376(2)(l) of the Indian Penal Code, along with Sections 4 and 6 of the POCSO Act.
Phek Police stated that the case was thoroughly investigated, with evidence carefully collected and properly documented during the course of the investigation.
Following trial, the Special Court found the accused guilty of the charges framed against him and, on April 28, 2026, sentenced him to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment along with a fine, the release said.
Phek Police said the conviction reflects its continued commitment to ensuring justice and maintaining the safety of women and children in the district. The police also acknowledged the efforts of the investigating officer, prosecution team, witnesses, and members of the public whose cooperation contributed to securing the conviction.
