Police clamp down on rampant sale of black SIM cards

DIMAPUR, APRIL 26 (MExN): In view of the increasing rate of crimes being committed with the help of Mobile technology and rampant sale of black SIM Cards at different public outlets resulting in serious law and order problems in the District, a surprise checking was conducted by East PS Personnel led by the OC on 25/04/12 at around 4:00 PM. This was informed in a press note issued by the Superintendent of Police Dimapur, Nagaland. 

During the surprise checking, one person namely, Jonathan Pochury, S/o Chupuli Pochury, V/o Phor, Proprietor of “Smax Telecom’ located at Burma Camp Bazar, Dimapur was arrested for illegal possession of the several SIM Cards and documents furnished below. During the initial interrogation, he admitted before the Police that, that he has been procuring SIM Cards from the concern service provider after filling up the forms by using fictitious names and addresses for his personal embezzlement.

This raid was necessitated as the SIM Cards were easily made available in the market without observing necessary formalities resorting to various duplication of paper works which has resulted in difficulties for the law enforcement agencies to acquire details of the subscriber identity and address whose numbers were wanted in certain case connection, the police explained. In this connection a regular case has been registered vide Dimapur East PS Case No. 100/12 U/S473/465 IPC against him for further investigation.

According to the police, besides SIM cards other items seized included fake seals & letter pad. One seal (Fake) in the name of Chairman Zeliangrong Council United Block, Burma Camp, Dimapur was recovered besides one blank writing pad in the name of Kenzube Haining, G.B. Over Bridge Colony, Dimapur; blank format of Certificate “To whom it may concern” in the name of Zeliangrong Council United Block, Burma Camp, Dimapur; certificate of Gram Panchayat for Idea Cellular – 01 Booklet.

Besides application forms of various cellular companies used in obtaining sim cards were also seized. These are pre-paid application form of Vodafone – 02 Nos; Retailer Booklet of Idea – 01 Booklet; Pre-paid Application form of Idea – 17 Nos; Pre-paid enrolment form of Airtel – 294 Nos; Pre-paid customer engagement form of Aircel – 92 Nos. Other items seized were passport photos of A4 size paper – 47 sheets; one Central Processing Unit (CPU) containing passport photos and one 4 GB drive of Kingston containing passport photos.
