Police escort for cash transaction: Govt

KOHIMA, MARCH 6 (DIPR): All Heads of Departments of Nagaland State Government have been directed to issue proper instructions to the respective subordinate Heads of Offices in the Districts and Sub-Divisions to handle money drawn from Treasuries and Banks under proper police escort.

The directives were given to all the Departments after thorough discussions on the need to take pre-emptive measures against possible cash looting and robbery, at the special monthly meeting of the Administrative Heads and Heads of Departments in Kohima on 3rd March, 2006.

The meeting strongly felt that the responsibility of safeguarding the Government money should not be delegated to the DDOs and other subordinate officials such as cashiers. It is felt that Heads of Departments should be directly held responsible for the safety of Government money.

Taking part in the discussions, the Director General of Nagaland Police, J Changkija appealed to all Heads of Departments to contact concerned SPs and other police officials for deployment of requisite number of police personnel for security of cash transactions.
