Police mobile squad charged with assaulting public leader

DIMAPUR, FEBRUARY 24 (MExN): The Niuland Area Citizens’ Forum, Niuland Area GBs Association & the Niuland Area Students’ Union in the strongest manner condemned what it termed as the brutal and unlawful act meted out to Isak Zhimomi, the President Niuland Area Citizens’ Forum, “who is a law abiding citizen and also the Chairman of Ghotovi Village Council”.

A joint press note from the concerned organization claimed that on February 23 while returning home after shopping with his wife at around 7:00 pm near Padumpukhuri junction his vehicle tyre got punctured. The victim asked one boy to help him in bringing a jack from a truck that was parked inside the petrol pump inorder to replace his tyre. In due course the Mobile Squad vehicle NL 10 6690 on duty came and physically assaulted him without any rhyme or reason and even abused the wife and threatened with dire consequences by misusing their official power. This was termed as unwarranted. Due to assault the victim’s right ear drums has been damaged and he has been referred for treatment outside the State for surgery.

The joint statement while condemning the unlawful action of the Mobile Squad, has requested the concerned higher authorities to look into the matter with all seriousness and thereby initiate necessary action and to give befitting punishment to the erring police personnel by booking them under the relevant sections of law.

In a separate press note, the President NPF Niuland Unit and Vice Chairman Niuland Adhoc Town Committee has in the strongest manner condemned the brutal and unlawful act meted out to Isak Zhimomi, the President Niuland Area Citizens’ Forum, who has been described as a law abiding citizen and also the Chairman of Ghotovi Village Council.

While questioning the personnel on duty for taking the law into their own hand and thereby harming the innocent citizen, the press note strongly urged the concerned higher authorities to see that the erring personnels be booked according to the law, failing which we shall leave no stone unturned until justice is delivered.
