Political will required to ensure citizen’s safety

Dimapur, July 2 (MExN): Naga Council Dimapur has condemned the attack on Inavi/United Naga villages inside Intangki National Park by unidentified armed miscreants on June 30 which resulted in the death of its chairman Inashe and assistant GB Vikeshe Sumi, further injuring atleast two others.
Naga Council, President, Savi Liegise said that the attack is unfortunate and despicable, uncivilized and completely against democratic norms of settling issues. The miscreants should be hunted down and brought to justice by the Government at the earliest and without delay. It is indeed extremely regrettable that inspite of law enforcement machineries at the disposal of the Government, the particular area has seen recurrence of intermittent tribal and village clashes since a couple of years resulting in several death and injuries.
Government must now evolve fail-proof measures in order to restore peace and normalcy of life by enforcing political will aimed at establishing justice based on truth and human rights.
The president on behalf of the NCD in a press statement said that the situation was a volcano waiting to erupt has been the perception of even common man on the street since quite a while. Yet the matter was left to simmer without any concrete peace or safety measures which reflect very poorly on all right thinking citizens and leaders concerned. The Government must now evolve fail-proof measures in order to restore peace and normalcy of life by enforcing political will aimed at establishing justice based on truth and human rights.
The Council appeals to all concerned citizens of the locality as well as the Naga citizens to maintain peace and calm by working out judicious formula that accommodates the rights and interests of all citizens.
Further, the bomb blast at 3rd mile the same day perpetrated reportedly by NSCN cadres killing and injuring three is strongly condemned. The trend of collection on the pretext of tax has been rampant and a 24x7 affair in the commercial hub which is yet to see any solution. The victim bears the full brunt of the crime while the Government and authorities concerned takes the blame of all crime and atrocious acts committed by so-called freedom workers. It is now time for the entire peace-loving public on the street to rise up to the occasion and say no to crime, extortion, etc that has left the Naga society under bondage of terror. The Council appeal to all Naga national authorities to book any cadres found deviating from the path of true nationalism and award harshest punishment.
NCD also call upon all citizens to come out with courage to report to authorities on time so that proper measures are taken by concerned law enforcement agencies in order that no lives are lost in the future. Further, the Government, its Administrative machineries and Police must coordinate closely to narrow the gaps in the security net to instill courage, confidence and safety to all business and economic centres which will promote greater growth which is in the interest of each and every individual in the State. Without political will and rule of law, any Government will expose its citizens to chaotic reign of terror which will only render its lofty rhetorics of economic growth, development and promise of a brighter Nagaland to mockery. The need of the hour is to practice what we preach and enforce law to safeguard innocent citizens be they businessmen, teachers, government servants, villagers, students and people from all walks of life.
