Popularization of garden pea cultivation under rice-pea cropping sequence at Wokha District of Nagaland

Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Wokha, ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Nagaland Centre, organized training cum frontline demonstration (FLD) programme on “Popularization of garden pea cultivation under rice-pea cropping sequence at Wokha District of Nagaland” under TSP project at Khumtso, Chukitong, Koio, Wokha, Humtso, Riphum and Longsachung  village of Wokha district from 19th to 24th November, 2015. 

Altogether hundred and three (103) farmers including 27 male and 76 female were benefited through this demonstration programme. During the training cum demonstration programme, Dr. Sanjay Kumar Ray, SMS (Soil Science), highlighted the importance of double cropping as a garden pea after paddy for Wokha District and he also elaborately spoke about the nutritional value of garden pea and how it improves soil fertility as a legume crop. Further, he also gave an idea about the scientific cultivation method of garden pea including seed rate, seed soaking, optimum spacing, intercultural operations and use of optimum dose of pesticides. He also distributed 200 kg garden pea seeds to cover an area of 2 ha, and neem oil as insecticide to the participants at free of cost.
